UK construction orders in the 12 months to June rose by eight per cent compared with the previous 12 months, and orders in the second quarter rose by six per cent compared to the same period a year earlier, new figures from the DTI showed yesterday.

It said that private housing orders in the 12 months to June fell by two per cent compared to those in the previous 12 months. Orders in the second quarter 2006 rose by eight per cent compared with the previous quarter, but fell by seven per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.

Public housing and housing association orders rose by 29 per cent in the year to June compared with the previous 12 months.

Public housing and housing association orders in the second quarter rose by eight per cent compared to the previous quarter, and rose by 34 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier.

Infrastructure orders in the twelve months to June fell by one per cent compared with the previous 12 months, while orders in the second quarter 2006 rose by 32 per cent compared with the previous quarter, but fell by 26 per cent when compared to the same period a year earlier.

The DTI added private commercial orders to June were 26 per cent higher than the previous 12 months.
