A Birmingham distribution company has donated more than £17,000 to a city hospice after a year of fundraising.

Staff at Connect Distribution presented John Taylor Hospice with a donation of £17,586.86, bringing the company’s total gift to nearly £40,000.

Connect, which is based at Small Heath Business Park, has chosen the Erdington hospice as its charity of the year for the past two years.

Company training manager Paul Renhard said: “We were raising around £6,000 for charity but we have collected around three times that this year. We have really learned that the more different kinds of events we hold the more we can raise.”

Connect’s assistant accountant Caroline Day said: “My family has supported John Taylor for a few years as they looked after my mum Kathy Day. She was in the hospice for about 15 days before she died in 2008.

“You don’t realise until you need the hospice just how much it does.”
