Work has begun on the first phase of a new 250,000 sq ft facility for aerospace group Moog on Wolverhampton’s i54 Business Park.
The new facility will house design, development and manufacturing operations for multiple aircraft flight controls programmes.
Moog is relocating its Wolverhampton operation from nearby Wobaston Road to the first phase being developed by Birmingham-based Stoford.
Builders McLaren Construction have moved in to pave the way for the new premises, which will be completed in September 2012, safeguarding around 400 jobs.
Stuart Mclachlan business unit general manager said: “This is a key strategic move for Moog, providing the opportunity to build a first class facility which will allow us to support and build on our market leading position in Europe and Globally.”
Dan Gallagher, Stoford director, added: “Moog’s recognition of the value in moving to the i54 site with its strategic transport links via the M54 should provide a lead for other international companies to follow.”
The project has been supported by Advantage West Midlands, Wolverhampton City Council and Fusion Building Consultancy.
