Foundation works have been carried out at a major construction project being undertaken by developer Seddon to deliver world-class facilities for the North Staffs YMCA in Stoke-on-Trent.

Under a two-year phased design and build programme, Seddon is renovating and redeveloping existing YMCA facilities in Hanley to create the new Young Persons Village – a development that will deliver an environment geared for the 21st Century.

With a contract value of about £7 million, Seddon will create international-standard, professional sports facilities – including a refurbished boxing club – as well as offices and new accommodation facilities.

Alan Nixon, managing director of Seddon, in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, said the development would have a positive impact on the community,

He added: “The new Young Persons Village will transform the delivery of services for users in the city and create an environment that will represent the best facilities of their type in Europe.”

A spokesman from the North Staffs YMCA, said: “The Young Persons Village is a model project, based around specialist youth-focused projects and services, including sports, recreation, supported housing and training services.

“It will provide a supported environment specifically designed to meet the needs and aspirations of young people.”
