Retailer WH Smith is set to open a new-concept store at Alpha Tower in Birmingham city centre.

The 1,110 sq ft letting of the ground floor unit, which was completed by Robertson Brown, is on a 10-year lease.

Julian Perry from building owners Catalyst Capital, said: “Since acquiring Alpha Tower we have invested heavily in upgrading the building itself, with a rolling programme of refurbishment to create a high quality working environment for both existing and future tenants. The addition of WH Smith, particularly with this new store concept, is an integral part of our programme of improvements.

“Not only will having a store of this calibre and one that stocks a broad range of products be a great asset to the people who work at Alpha Tower already and in the surrounding buildings, but as we are actively speaking to new office occupiers, it will be a vital part of our artillery in promoting the building.”

The store, which is the first of this new concept in the region, is based on a “grab and go” format, which has been specially developed for business environments and enables customers to make the most of their lunch hour. This means that the store is well signposted, easily navigable and has a larger service area with increased till numbers.

Alastair Robertson-Dunn, Robertson Brown, who negotiated the letting of behalf of Catalyst Capital, said: “Retailers are always developing new ideas to draw in customers and keep the competitive edge on their product lines, which is why this new concept store is an excellent addition to the marketplace.”
