Segro has clinched GRO has agreed its largest letting in two years at Kings Norton Business Centre (KNBC) with Wates Living Space, which is set to create 50 new jobs.
In a deal brokered by joint agents DTZ and Harris Lamb, Wates Living Space has taken a five-year lease on 39,869 sq ft of warehouse and office space to support its growing contract funded by Birmingham City Council in delivering Birmingham’s Decent Homes Programme.
The 4,800 sq ft of office space is being extended to accommodate more personnel and Wates Living Space envisages that up to 80 office and operational staff will work from the Sovereign Road premises by the autumn.
Phil Sperring, business unit director (Midlands) at Wates Living Space, said: “From a logistics point of view, KNBC is an absolutely ideal location to service our projects across the South Birmingham area. The size of the warehouse and office facility was also a perfect fit with our requirements so we are delighted to be adding this new base to our Midlands operation.”
Part of the Wates Group, Wates Living Space is one of the country’s leading affordable housing contractors and one of three partners working with Birmingham City Council to improve the 68,000 homes in its public housing stock. In September the company will embark on a large-scale project to upgrade kitchens and bathrooms in council properties in South Birmingham.
Jane Leedham, senior surveyor at Segro, said: “KNBC continues to attract interest from blue chip occupiers who value the business park’s strategically placed location, good local facilities and excellent road, rail and air links. We are thrilled to welcome Wates Living Space to KNBC.”
Neil Slade at Harris Lamb, said: “The Wates deal is the latest of many we have encouraged to the estate during 2007/8, with a number of new tenants as well as existing companies expanding and taking additional space.”
John Sambrooks, Birmingham-based associate director in DTZ’s national industrial and logistics team, added: “The recent installation of CCTV across the estate, coupled with onsite security further emphasises our client’s ambition to retain Kings Norton Business Centre as a premier estate in the South Birmingham region.”
