Leading European healthcare provider Global Health Partner has chosen Edgbaston as the location for the UK headquarters of a specialist subsidiary company.
Vita Clinics UK, a specialist provider in bariatrics or weight management, has taken 3,856 sq ft of open plan space in a period building in Highfield Road from Calthorpe Estates.
The property has been subject to an extensive refurbishment programme in excess of £500,000, to convert the ex-sixth form school into a high-quality medical clinic with modern consultation and treatment rooms.
Patients will be provided with medically supervised weight management programmes as well as assessment for bariatric surgery and the associated pre and post-operative care.
David Allison, general manager of Vita Clinics UK, said: “Bariatrics deals with the prevention and treatment of obesity. This is an increasing problem, particularly in the UK, and Vita Clinics is undertaking a rapid expansion programme to meet the needs of this growing market.”
The Midlands clinic will act as the UK headquarters for a network of clinics opening in Manchester, London, Belfast and the Republic of Ireland.
Mr Allison added: “Birmingham has an unrivalled central location and great transport links, making it an ideal choice for our headquarters.
“When it came to deciding exactly where we wanted to be in Birmingham, I knew it had to be Edgbaston. Nowhere in the city is comparable in offering attractive period properties that provide a visual stamp of individuality and quality.
“And with an emerging reputation as the mini Harley Street, we knew we’d be in good company with other quality healthcare providers.”
Natasha Walkden, sales and marketing co-ordinator for Calthorpe Estates, said: “Around a fifth of the occupiers on the Estate operate in the healthcare sector, offering services including dental care, laser treatment and non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
“We have found that they are attracted by the credibility of being located alongside other businesses operating in their sector.
“They also enjoy the benefits of a self-contained period building, which is typical of the area.”
Vita Clinics UK work with specialist multi-disciplinary teams including surgeons, physicians, psychologists, dieticians and nurse specialists.
The Midlands clinic will employ a core staff of 10 with an additional team of 8 consultants.
The first clinics began in December, with the capacity to treat several hundred patients per year.
