Self-storage provider Space Station has expanded its presence with a new base in south Birmingham.

The Slough-based company has acquired Storage Corporation, in Kings Heath, making it the firm's sixth depot and first outside of the South East.

The premises will undergo a phased refurbishment programme which is expected to be completed early next year and will include changing the branding to Space Station.

Once completed, the site will be managed by existing staff.

The deal was supported by a £1 million loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland which has worked with Space Station since it was founded more than 30 years ago.

Kevin Prince, business manager at Space Station, said: "This is an exciting period for us as we expand our services into the Midlands.

"We have built our reputation in Slough as a credible self-storage provider and acquiring Kings Heath will allow us to increase our annual turnover to £4.3 million this year."

Steve Bennett, senior relationship manager at RBS, added: "Space Station is a fantastic example of how the bank can support local SMEs achieve great success.

"I wish Kevin all the best as he embarks on the refurbishment programme and establishes the Space Station brand name in Birmingham."
