Work at Calthorpe Estates’ latest development moved a step forward this week with the appointment of Shaylor Construction as principal contractor on its 100 Hagley Road scheme.

The £12 million redevelopment, managed by Edmond Shipway, will extend the current five storeys to six and increase the building’s energy efficiency.

Ralph Minott, director of development for Calthorpe Estates, said: “100 Hagley Road is a prime location at the western gateway to the city, offering a great opportunity to be part of Edgbaston’s thriving business community.

“It is already proving popular with 28,000 sq ft of space pre-let to Barker Brettell, a full service intellectual property firm based on the Estate for over 50 years.”

The redevelopment will see the building transformed with the replacement of windows and brickwork façade. Inside the layout will be adapted to offer more flexible, open plan office space, in addition to prime retail opportunities.

Minott added: “Shaylor Construction has a long history closely linked to the regeneration of the West Midlands, their appointment for the 100 Hagley Road project followed an extensive competitive and qualitative tender process.”

Steve Watson, construction manager for Shaylor, said: “From the outset, this refurbishment will focus on maximising potential of the site and its location, which today means everything from improving its appearance to ensuring it is a truly sustainable development.”

David Clarke, of Edmond Shipway, said: “The aim of the scheme is to refurbish this existing building and return it to prominence on the gateway.”
