Building consultancy Powell Williams has welcomed a new senior surveyor to its Birmingham office.

Chartered surveyor Jon Carey joins the team from Arcadis, previously known as EC Harris, where he worked for three years.

Prior to that, he was at Edmond Shipway for five years where he was involved with high-profile projects including the fit out of the new the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur for the Foreign and Commonwealth office.

Mr Carey has worked in both the commercial and public sector industries and undertaken a number of government schemes at court buildings, medical facilities, schools and historic buildings.

Senior parter with Powell Williams in Birmingham Michael Jones said: "Jon brings with him a wealth of experience in commercial building surveying and, crucially, in project management and development monitoring which are areas of significant growth for us at the moment.

"His arrival will help meet the workload of the team in Birmingham and allow us to continue to grown the business in this region for both existing and new clients."

Mr Carey added: "Having come from two very different firms, I have worked on a variety of interesting projects and benefited from that experience.

"I was looking for a new challenge with a smaller practice that would allow me to work closely with the senior partners to develop my skills, and take on more responsibility for the delivery of each project."

Mr Carey will be leading a number of upcoming office and industrial refurbishment projects, alongside Birmingham-based partners Michael Jones and David Heatherington.
