The swanky new Harvey Nichols store in Birmingham is now open and it won't be long before the rest of the revamped Mailbox is welcoming in shoppers.

It has been partially shut since mid-2013 when new owners Brockton Capital and Milligan, which paid £127.1 million for the mixed-use complex in 2011, confirmed they would be spending £50 million on giving it a much-needed facelift.

But long before all of this renovation was planned, The Mailbox was a vacant former sorting office doing very little indeed.

Birmingham developers Alan Chatham and Mark Billingham acquired the building for £4 million in the late 1990s and set about transforming the city's retail scene, launching the new-look complex in 2000.

The Post has taken a trip down Memory Lane (see gallery above) to see how The Mailbox looked before it was given that facelift 15 years ago.
