Waitrose has opened its first Birmingham city centre convenience store at One Colmore Row.

The 3,000 sq ft shop will offer a range of food, including fresh fruit and vegetables.

Waitrose store manager, Barbara Parker, said: “We have long had ambitions to open a shop in the city centre and are delighted that we are finally open.

“The last few weeks have been very exciting, as the finishing touches have been made to the shop and partners completed their training – we are all looking forward to welcoming our customers and showing them everything that the shop has to offer.”

Waitrose Colmore Row will donate an annual sum of £6,000 to local projects through participating in the retailer’s Community Matters scheme.

Staff and customers can nominate local causes, from which three will be selected to receive a share of £500 each month.

Customers decide what proportion each charity receives by depositing green tokens that they are given after shopping.
