Developers have been given permission to construct a new office development in Walsall which could create up to 900 new jobs for the area.

Walsall Council has given consent for the development of the 105,000 sq ft Onyx development on the Tempus 10 mixed-use business park overlooking Junction 10 of the M6.

Three office buildings are planned – one of 36,000 sq ft and two of 25,000 sq ft – each on three-and-a-half acres of the site.

The project is a joint scheme by Oakham Developments and Abacus Developments. They are seeking a BREEAM Excellent rating for the buildings which, they say, will make Onyx the only office development in the northern West Midlands to achieve such a high environmental standard.

“There is no other site of this importance and prominence in the borough, right next to the M6,” said Noel Muscutt, of joint agents Bulleys.

“Planning consent gives certainty on deliverability, and will allow the developers to bring this much-needed site forward and provide a major boost to local employment,” he added.

Another major attraction of Onyx will be the high quality accommodation developed on site, said Adrian Griffith, of joint agents GVA Grimley. “The developers are dedicated to providing energy-efficient buildings at Tempus 10 with Grade A specification, including a BREEAM Excellent rating, which is a requirement of public sector occupancy, so Onyx fits the bill perfectly.”
