Midland financier Paul Bassi has been installed as High Sheriff of the West Midlands in a ceremony at Birmingham Law Courts conducted by Mr Justice Colman Treacy QC.

The largely ceremonial role involves attending royal visits to the West Midlands as the sovereign’s representative in the region for matters relating to the judiciary and the maintenance of law and order.

Mr Bassi is chairman of property agents Bond Wolfe and Bigwood and chief executive of Real Estate Investors Plc, the quoted property company where he is also its largest shareholder. Mr Bassi said: “I am honoured to have been nominated to undertake this ancient office and I am looking forward to carrying out my duties over the next 12 months.”

Birmingham-born Mr Bassi is also a Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands and vice-president of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.

When he becomes president next year he will be the first Asian president of the largest chamber of commerce in the country.

In addition to his commercial interests, Mr Bassi is an active supporter of a number of charitable and community organisations in the Midlands.
