A new four-star hotel is set to be built in Birmingham city centre.
Irish group Dalata said it was planning to develop a new £40 million hotel with around 330 rooms, a bar, restaurant and meeting rooms on land at the corner of Gough Street and Suffolk Street Queensway, close the Mailbox shopping mall.
The hotel, which will operate under the Maldron brand and create around 165 full- and part-time jobs, will open in early 2021, subject to planning consent from the city council.
Dublin-based Dalata bought Hotel La Tour near Moor Street station last year and now operates it under its other brand, Clayton.
It has also announced plans for a new Clayton Hotel in Bristol.
Dermot Crowley, deputy chief executive of business development and finance, said: "We are delighted to secure agreements to lease these two very exciting new hotels in the heart of Bristol and Birmingham.
"Both cities possess very strong hotel markets and these two projects demonstrate our ability to grow a very attractive development pipeline of hotels in the UK."
Belfast-based property group McAleer & Rushe will lead development of the new hotel in Birmingham.
Property director Stephen Surphlis added: "The new Maldron Hotel is a significant project that will enhance Birmingham's continued development and add to the regeneration within the city.
"We are confident our investment in the city will make an important contribution to the economy and provide a modern hotel offering for business users as well as leisure visitors."
