A national fertility clinic group is to expand its network of medical hubs by opening a new centre on the Calthorpe Estate.
Care Fertility is due to open the clinic in the Edgbaston Medical Quarter early next year in a move which is expected to create up to 50 new jobs.
The independent group currently operates a satellite clinic near Five Ways station offering IVF consultation and treatment monitoring but has now agreed a deal with Calthorpe Estates to take more than 10,000 sq ft of space at 27 Highfield Road.
The IVF and fertility clinic will join the group's network of main sites including in London, Manchester and Dublin and be close to the Birmingham Medical Institute Conference Centre which is currently being converted into a pub.
It will have laboratories, theatres and patient facilities and employ a variety of roles including clinical, nursing, embryology, administration and support services.
Care Fertility is one of the largest integrated team of specialists dedicated solely to fertility management and assisted reproduction.
Chief executive Harvey Ainley said: "The West Midlands is a key part of Care Fertility's expansion plans.
"We already have a large number of patients who travel from the region to our Nottingham clinic and, as well as building on existing interest, we also wanted to open up access to our enhanced level of service and treatment for an even greater number of people located in and around Birmingham.
"The new clinic is in a prime location. By far the greatest attraction was the opportunity to be part of a very well-established medical community which is clearly going from strength-to-strength.
"Edgbaston Medical Quarter is renowned for its strong healthcare focus and heritage.
"Care Fertility welcomes the chance to join a flourishing network and to make a positive contribution to the broader provision of clinical services in the area."
Edgbaston Medical Quarter is now home to more than 180 medical organisations, 80 hospitals and specialist centres, 44 GP clinics and 23 training facilities.
Mark Lee, chief executive of Calthorpe Estates, added: "It is considered a real coup that a dedicated IVF and fertility treatment clinic of this calibre will be located within the thriving centre of excellence that is Edgbaston Medical Quarter.
"Care Fertility is highly regarded in its field and its investment here is testament to the many advantages medical, healthcare and life sciences organisations see in being a part of its ongoing clustering success."
Commercial property consultancy Innes England acted on behalf Care Fertility in the deal.
