One of Birmingham’s best known architects practices has appointed a new director.

Richard Perry has been promoted at Mailbox-based Associated Architects, following a period as associate director.

Mr Perry played a key role in securing the latest phase of Coventry’s Increasing Pupil Places programme that will see the delivery of 10 schools by 2015.

“I am very proud to take on this role and am excited to see where 2014 takes the practice,” he said.

“With confidence returning to the construction industry I hope that many interesting potential projects will present themselves this year.”

Mr Perry, who has been with the practice for eight years, has established a strong base in the education sector, successfully delivering a number of schools for local authorities.

He is currently working on a series of school expansions for Coventry City Council, the new University Training School at the University of Birmingham and a performance venue at an independent school.

Managing director Ian Standing said of the appointment: “Richard leads a fantastic team and has a wealth of practical experience, we’re glad to welcome him as one of the five directors.”

The appointment comes after a strong year for the practice, which secured a number of significant contract wins in 2013.
