Encouraged by the successful completion of a first-phase leisure scheme, Standard Commercial Property Developments is now moving forward with a 90,000 sq ft retail complex on the 18-acre Middleway Park site in Burton-upon-Trent town centre.
The second phase will create about 90,000 sq ft of open A1 retail accommodation, with units ranging in size from 10,000 sq ft to 40,000 sq ft-plus - all of them available on the basis of a 25-year FRI lease at a rent of #14 per sq ft, according to agents King Sturge.
Completion of the retail scheme is anticipated in summer 2003 and the developers can confirm that they are already in advanced negotiations with two major occupiers.
SCPDL is also marketing a phase-three scheme, which consists of four units adding up to roughly 12,000 sq ft.
A residential scheme, together with a 7,737 sq ft office development, is planned to complete what will be a high-profile town centre mixed-use development which, it is reckoned, will further broaden the appeal of Burton-upon-Trent as a shopping and leisure destination.
"The Middleway Park scheme represents an excellent opportunity for retailers to secure large spaces at affordable rents in the heart of Burton," confirms Jonathan Sykes, of agents King Sturge.
"This development will reinforce the town's objectives in serving the local and wider catchment areas, and we have already secured interest from a number of quality retailers for the various schemes on offer."
