A new planning and design company from the West Midlands is being launched later this month at Mipim - the world's largest commercial property event.

Brandon Planning and Design, based in Bayley Lane in Coventry city centre, has been established by two experienced property figures.

Mike Jones is a former managing director of developers Oakmoor Estates, while Steve Davis runs S R Davis Architects in Birmingham.

The new company is being launched at the Mipim commercial property show in Cannes next week and is part of Coventry's largest ever presence at the event.

Mr Jones said: "This really is a return to my roots. I trained as a town planner at Lanchester Polytechnic, which is now Coventry University, and is just yards from our headquarters.

"I had done more than ten years in a corporate structure and while I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, I wanted to run my own company and make my own decisions. I have worked with Steve for more than 20 years and we have already had a great level of interest from development companies and individuals.

"This is a very exciting time for this region and for the city of Coventry. The city is undergoing a tremendous amount of regeneration. Our company can give advice to developers or individuals to help them and their projects through the planning process and we will also work directly for planning authorities and other public bodies.

"We both have a proven track record in our fields of town planning and architecture and we have been very pleased with the initial reaction the new company has had."

Mr Jones, who was one of the major forces behind the Belgrade Plaza scheme - designed by S R Davis Architects - began his planning career with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and, among other ventures, he also established and managed a strategic land operation for Crest Nicholson.

At the same time as forming Brandon Planning & Design, he also established a property development company, called Brandon Estates, which is actively pursuing several projects in and around Coventry.

Mr Jones added: "I am very excited at what is happening and what is planned in Coventry and we very much want to be a part of that."

Brandon Planning & Design will join 14 other key partners and Coventry City Council at the Mipim event, which is the largest of its kind in the world.

Brandon Planning & Design will be joined by Coventry City Council, Cannon Kirk, Deeley Properties, Cassidy Group, Yorkshire Bank, Shortland Horne, Goodman International, MCD Developments, Howard Holdings, D & P Holt, Oakmoor Estates, Stoford Developments, Modus, Cala Homes and Jaguar Cars.
