Coleshill-based demolition specialist Code has been appointed by Parkridge Securities Ltd to undertake a remediation strategy at one of Wolverhampton’s oldest historic industrial sites in preparation for a £20m mixed use scheme.

The former Metal Castings Ltd site on Graiseley Hill, off Penn Road, has accommodated automotive and specialist metal casting businesses in the manufacturing industry for more than 100 years, but has been left vacant since the factory was closed in 2004.

The project will involve Code undertaking a comprehensive demolition, remediation and cut and fill strategy to allow Parkridge Securities Ltd to embark on a mixed-use development which has been granted outline planning permission.

Chris Rawlins, managing director of Code, said the complexity of the project had seen the company employ a specialist environmental and geo-technical engineer to oversee the work.

Lee Murphy, who is managing the project on behalf of Parkridge Securities, said “It is a great opportunity to bring the site back to life and we envisage investing around £2 million on the enabling works alone, prior to the construction phase. Our overall investment in this site will extend to some £20million.”

Parkridge is expected to apply for detailed planning permission in August 2008 with a comprehensive proposal to build a hotel, complementary restaurant and retail uses and up to 250 new homes on the site.
