New life is to be breathed into a former Victorian factory in the heart of Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter.

The Ruskin Mill Trust, in Gloucestershire, specialises in developing educational and cultural centres out of heritage buildings by transforming them into centres for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

It is planning to turn the 135-year-old Standard Works building, in Vittoria Street, into a specialist further education college for 16 to 25 year olds with a range of emotional and learning difficulties.

In addition to education space, there will be room for businesses related to manufacturing, jewellery and also a cafe.

The Post joined other interested members of the community for a tour ahead of the multimillion-pound renovation which is due to be completed in 2015.
