Birmingham-based auctioneers Bigwood has sold nearly £30million of land and property so far this year, according to figures from auction data house Essential Information Group.

And at its December 8 auction at Aston Villa FC, Bigwood could top £40 million for the year, a 20 per cent improvement on 2009.

The Edgbaston firm, which also has offices in Colmore Row, Henley-in-Arden and Stratford-upon-Avon, left the competition trailing with the second rated firm raising £22 million and the third nearly £19 million. after that the figures fall away to £0.5 million.

Bigwood managing director Rory Daly said: “We are now firmly established as one of the leading auction houses outside of London, and one that local authorities and the institutions are increasingly turning to in order to realise value for their property holdings.”
