A firm of consulting engineers has maintained its family-focus, after appointing the daughter of its founder to the board of directors.

GCA (UK), which has branches at the Market Place in Warwick, Stafford, Derby and Leicester, was founded by Geoffrey Collett under the name of Geoffrey Collett Associates in 1976. He retired from the day-to-day running of GCA last year, although he remains as chairman.

His daughter, Nicky Collett, aged 32, joined GCA as an administration support officer in 2001, and was promoted to finance manager in 2004.

In her new role she will be responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting, human resources and office management at GCA. She will also work closely with the team of directors to develop the company's financial strategy.

In addition, she will manage the administration and finance team in Derby, and oversee all recruitment and HR issues across GCA's four regional offices.

Mr Collett said: "I am delighted to welcome Nicky to the board. Since she joined she has implemented a wealth of new procedures and implemented strict financial controls which have helped to keep GCA running smoothly."

GCA offers a range of traditional civil and structural engineering services, highway and infrastructure design, transportation and safety engineering, together with expert witness services for the legal profession.

BISCOM, the specialist recruitment and training provider, has marked its recent acquisition by ResCare. one of the world's largest training organisations, with the appointment of a new managing director.

Kay Sutton, who joined the organisation eight years ago, will be based at Biscom's head office in Chaplin Court, Birmingham.

Reporting directly to the senior management team at ResCare, based in Louisville, Kentucky, she will be tasked with driving Biscom's continuing growth in the UK and Europe.

Biscom, which currently operates from six centres across the West Midlands, was established in 1992.

The company, which employs 250 members of staff, has major ongoing contracts with Job Centre Plus and the Learning and Skills Council.

Melissa Bate, from Sutton Coldfield, has been appointed as head of human resources by Midlands-based affordable housing provider and regeneration specialist LOVELL.

Lovell has its head office in Tamworth and regional offices at Woodgate Valley, Birmingham.

Ms Bate has joined from express delivery firm City Link where she was general manager for HR. 7 DAY CATERING has boosted its team with two new sales managers, Dale Spiers and Chantelle O'Carroll, covering the Midlands and North of England respectively.

Business finance provider, CATTLES INVOICE FINANCE, has strengthened its Midlands presence with the appointment of Andrew Beamish as a regional sales manager.

Bromsgrove based electrical accessories specialists, BYRON, has appointed a new manager for its expanded warehouse operations.

Malcolm Chilton is responsible for the distribution and control of key products, including Byron's Home Easy range of wireless appliances.

Byron, founded in 1904, makes door bells, home automation, light switches and sockets, CCTV and smoke alarms.
