Business lobby group Birmingham Forward has introduced a new individual membership scheme allowing professionals from any sector to join the organisation.

Previously only firms within the professional and financial services arena could apply for membership.

With the launch of its new associate scheme, individuals who hold a professional post within a non-member firm can now become members too.

This month the group welcomed its first member Mirza Ahmad, chief legal officer at Birmingham City Council.

Derek Inman, retiring chairman of Birmingham Forward said: "It's great news that we have introduced our associate membership scheme to professionals who would not normally qualify to join Birmingham Forward but who also want to help better the city.

"Since creating the scheme we have had a healthy interest from professionals wanting to join. Now Birmingham Forward will be an even stronger voice for professionals in the city."

Mr Ahmad said: "Birmingham is a great international city and I am committed to promoting the best of Birmingham.

"Birmingham's strength comes from having healthy working relations between the public, private and voluntary sectors - each of which plays an important part in driving the agenda forward to make Birmingham a truly world class city."

An associate member will gain access to all Birmingham Forward events and networking opportunities for £150 +VAT per year.
