Anglo Holt Construction will present client Travelodge with an early Christmas present when it hands over a 75-bedroom hotel at Broadway Plaza near Five Ways, Birmingham, in good time for the opening on December 22.

The #2.4 million contract completed by Anglo Holt in 40 weeks represents Travelodge’s eleventh budget hotel in Birmingham and one of eight currently underway by West Bromwich-based Anglo Holt with a contract value of #14.4 million. A 33-bedroomed Travelodge at Redditch is one of the new contracts along with Watford, Bangor, Barnstable, Hereford and Glastonbury. All told Anglo Holt will be adding an additional 356 bedrooms to meet Travelodge’s aggressive growth strategy forecast to deliver 32,000 rooms in total by 2010.

The average contract length from start on site to hand over to client is just 29 weeks, according to Andy Elwell, Anglo Holt’s director in charge of Travelodge contracts.

He said: "The Broadway Plaza construction programme was particularly challenging due to difficult and restricted access to the site which is in the heart of a live and vibrant entertainment and leisure development.

"Construction work and all the associated materials delivered to a restricted site do not sit easily alongside volumes of visitors day and night at one of Birmingham’s top entertainment venues. Projects of this nature are a good demonstration of our considerate constructors policy in action."

The latest contracts bring Anglo Holt’s total bedroom count to 800 over a 12 month period for Travelodge, the UK’s fastest growing hotel company.
