Chris Parnham, of Derby event management company Zibrant was last night named Midlands Young Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors at the Emerging Leader Awards gala dinner held in Birmingham Town Hall.

He won the medium-sized business category, fighting off stiff competition from Nicola Fleet-Milne of Fleetmilne Residential in Birmingham, who won the small business award, and Sukhi Ghuman of The Octavian Group in Nottingham, who won the large business category.

Other award winners included Charlotte Ritchie of Birmingham Chamber, who won the Outstanding Contribution award in the not-for-profit sector; Pertemps People Development, which won the Corporate Social Responsibility Award and Sir Bernard Zissman, who was named as IoD Non-Executive Director of the Year 2007.

Sarah Evans, head teacher of King Edward VI High School for Girls in Birmingham, was presented with the chairman's category, the IoD Leadership Award for 2007.
