Aston Villa’s 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Villa Park recently turned out to be not only a good result for them but for two local charities too.

Scoring three goals during the match resulted in £4,000 being donated equally between Birmingham based homeless charity, St Basils and Acorns.

The amount was raised when general manager of the Circus Casino at Starcity, Dave Scott, announced prior to the game to his Villa hosts that he would donate £1,000 for every goal scored during the match and present a further £1,000 bonus if the team came away in victory.

Mr Scott said: “The number of goals scored also meant that we could donate £4,000 on the day split between both charities. This was added to the amount already raised at our recent poker tournament in which we raised over £5,000.”

Elinor Eustace from Acorns said: “It costs over £8 million a year to provide care and support to local life limited and life threatened children and their families and we rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income.”
