A West Midlands-based network and communications firm is looking to expand after securing the financial backing to support its diversification into a new market.

CDI Group, which employs 97 people and has its headquarters at the King Norton’s Business Centre in Birmingham, is aiming to further strengthen its position in the network and communication infrastructure markets having become a new customer of Yorkshire Bank.

CDI has been designing, project managing and installating network cabling, network hardware and telephony solutions since setting up in 1987 and has now launched a new security division.

The company counts Hewlett Packard, Tektronix and Fujitsu among its client roster.

Managing director Chris Arkwell said the transfer to Yorkshire Bank would enable the company, which turned over £6.5 million last year, to build its presense in the electronic security sector and comes on the back of the firm enjoying its strongest period in the last eight years.

“We see the security arm of the business as an area where there is scope for lots of growth and bringing Yorkshire Bank on board will give us the ability to plan for future expansion of the Group,” he said. “Having taken the decision to switch banks we had three or four offers on the table, but it became clear early on we liked Yorkshire Bank and they shared our vision for the future of the company and demonstrated support for the plans we have to expand.”

And he said the new arm of the business allows CDI to offer a full range of industry leading products and services to protect customer networks.

“Our expertise as a data network provider fused with our security expertise will enable us to lead the way in providing high-technology network security services,” added Mr Arkwell.

Mr Arkwell said the company has just enjoyed its best year for eight years.

Vicky Blagriff, business banking partner at Yorkshire Bank’s Birmingham Financial Solutions Centre in Temple Row, said the CDI Group is in a strong position to strengthen both its UK and international operations.

She said: “CDI Group has built a strong reputation in the network and communications industry.”
