The environmental consulting arm of science and engineering group Casella - which has offices in Great Barr and Tamworth- is to be acquired by health and safety management firm Bureau Veritas.
Bureau Veritas hopes the acquisition of Casella Consulting will strengthen its UK presence as well as its capabilities in the fields of ambient air, contaminated land, environmental management and sustainability and health and safety.
Last year Bureau Veritas UK and Ireland saw turnover of around £55 million. The Casella Consulting business includes environmental consultancy Casella Stanger, Casella Hazmat - one of the largest asbestos consultancies in the UK - health, safety and occupational hygiene consultant Casella Winton and Casella Analytic, which incorporates expert laboratory testing services.
In the current year ending June 30, the group forecasts sales of around £30 million for this division.
Ian Sparks, chief executive of Casella Consulting, said: "By this takeover Casella Consulting and Bureau Veritas hope to build a strong foundation to continue to grow.
"The practicalities of the merger are still to be decided. We will be conducting a three- month assessment before any decisions are made."
Olivier Guize, chief executive of Bureau Veritas UK and Ireland, said: "This acquisition moves Bureau Veritas UK into the top tier of the health and safety and environmental compliance market in the UK and Ireland."
