Work is set to begin on a new apartment block in Birmingham city centre.

The development, named Lighthouse, is situated on the southern edge of the Masshouse Plaza plot, near the proposed Birmingham Curzon Street HS2 station.

Developer Nikal is poised to begin work on the scheme which comprises just 14 units comprised of studio, one and two bedroom apartments, along with a three bedroom penthouse on the top floor.

John Moffat, development director at Nikal, said: “Lighthouse presents an exclusive addition to Birmingham’s city centre residential market, with only 14 apartments available for purchase. Every apartment has stunning views either directly across the City Park, or towards the Bullring. Our three-bedroom Penthouse in particular – which occupies the entire top floor – really capitalises on the location of Lighthouse, with sweeping panoramic views.

“The delivery of HS2 will play a key role in the ongoing renaissance of Eastside and Lighthouse is perfectly positioned to capitalise on the new squares and amenities that are planned for the area and I’m delighted to be able to launch this new development to the market.”

Underlining the popularity of the area, Nikal has already secured the sale of several apartments off-plan, through residential agent, Knight Frank.

Mark Evans, Knight Frank, said: “The demand for high quality city centre accommodation in Birmingham is continuing to grow and there is precious little available stock, particularly with this kind of high profile location at the heart of a burgeoning and resurgent part of the city.”

Nikal has begun work after achieving success with his Hive development on the Masshouse site which saw all 167 apartments sold in two years.
