Jaguar Land Rover, Matrix Housing Partnership and Midcounties Co-op are among 12 West Midlands companies to win a 2015 Queen's Award for Enterprise.

The annual awards are handed out to businesses and individuals across the UK in four categories - innovation, international trade, sustainable development and enterprise promotion - and 147 received recognition in this year's cohort.

Five West Midlands companies won an award in the innovation category.

They are Smethwick-based delivery company GeoPost UK for its door-step delivery service, Spetchley manufacturer Grey Technology for developing a new type of cordless powered vacuum cleaner and Prometheus Medical in Leominster for its work on the 'Russell Chest Seal'.

Also winning an innovation award are developer Proserve in Kenilworth for its automated system for remotely filling grout bags with cement grout and Telford-based Thermserve for designing advanced temperature control facilities.

Companies recognised for international trade are Coventry University, which was ranked within the top four per cent of universities worldwide in 2013/14, and Stoke-based LA International Computer Consultants for its expansion overseas.

Kings Norton vitamin and supplement manufacturer NutraHealth has also broken into new markets in the BRIC countries and South America and Coventry-based TA Savery & Company which makes hydraulic products and simulation software for both domestic and overseas markets.

Making up the West Midlands winners, for their work on sustainable development, are Jaguar Land Rover for its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its production operations and Matrix Housing Partnership in West Bromwich for boosting the energy efficiency of its houses.

Finally, The Midcounties Co-operative, headquartered in Warwick, was recognised for implementing a social responsibility programme, placing sustainability at the heart of its operations.

Winners of the Queen's Awards for Enterprise are visited by a Royal representative and are presented with a crystal bowl as a mark of their achievement.

They are also invited to attend a reception at Buckingham Palace in July.
