A management shake-up has been announced by regional airline Flybe as part of an ongoing strategic review into the business aimed at saving £40 million.

New chief executive Saad Hammad revealed in August said he would look at the firm’s structure in a bid to cut costs at the airline, which is the largest volume operator from Birmingham Airport.

In an announcement to the Stock Exchange, ex-easyJet executive Mr Hammad, who took over from Jim French earlier this year, said the review should be completed by November.

Andrew Strong, managing director of Flybe UK and Mike Rutter, head of the outsourcing solutions unit left their jobs last week, along with director of corporate strategy Mark Chown.

Flybe is also seeking a new chief financial officer. The airline said that Matt Bennett, the current director of internal audit and risk will also act as director of special projects. Director of aircraft maintenance John Palmer will serve as interim operations chief until a replacement is found.

Mr Hammad said: “It has quickly become clear that Flybe’s prospects will be significantly enhanced by disbanding the existing divisional structure and integrating all operations into a single, simpler and lower-cost operating unit.”

The company is renegotiating pilot pay and has delayed deliveries of new fleet of regional jets from manufacturer Embraer.
