Plans to build 301 new apartments on vacant industrial land close to Edgbaston Reservoir have been unveiled.

Developer Rochda is seeking permission to demolish the existing factory buildings on the corner of Icknield Port Road and Osler Street and develop a new complex reaching up to nine storeys.

The project would have 163 one-bedroom, 119 two-bedroom, 18 three-bedroom and one four-bedroom apartments, parking for 256 cars and two cycling spaces for every unit.

There would also be landscaped courtyards and roof gardens.

It is believed the canalside part of the application site housed factories and workshops as far back as the 1850s and it was most recently used by rubber and plastics manufacturing company Hermetic.

The application site is close to Port Loop, a major regeneration site which last year won the green light to build 207 apartments and houses in its first phase.
