Further jobs misery is on the way for staff at the HMV store in Stratford- upon-Avon, which is to close.

The Warwickshire outlet is among new store closures ordered by HMV owners Hilco, which is continuing its attempt to turnaround the entertainment chain after snapping up the cash-stricken retail icon last April.

Nobody from HMV was available for comment, but a store worker at Stratford said: “The store is closing. I can’t tell you any more, you are talking to somebody who is losing their job.”

HMV workers across the UK were thrown a lifeline last spring following a £50 million rescue by Hilco, with more than 2,600 jobs saved.

A total of 141 stores, including the Birmingham Bullring outlet and Merry Hill, Wolverhampton, Leamington Spa and Coventry, were bought nearly three months after the struggling music retailer collapsed into administration.
