Land Rover is promising its soon to be unveiled Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be “the most capable convertible in the world” and boast the familiar all-terrain abilities the marque is famed for.

The convertible Evoque is set to make its debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November before going on sale in the UK in spring next year.

Land Rover’s pledge about the Evoque’s all-terrain capabilities comes after it completed a rigorous programme of off-road testing at the car-maker’s Eastnor Castle estate in Herefordshire.

Mike Cross, Land Rover chief engineer, vehicle integrity, said: “Land Rover prides itself on being a class leader when it comes to all-terrain capability and the Evoque Convertible is no different.

“Thanks to a combination of innovative engineering and the application of advanced technologies, Evoque Convertible will deliver a dynamic and assured SUV experience that has been tested around the world. We call it ‘The Convertible for all Seasons’.”

The run-up to its unveiling is likely to see a host of promotional activities for the Evoque Convertible.

The most recent was Land Rover’s “London takeover”, where six full-scale wireframe sculptures showcased the Evoque Convertible’s design at a series of landmark locations.

Since then Land Rover has also released video footage showing the world’s first luxury compact SUV convertible completing the final phase of testing at Eastnor Castle.

The film demonstrates how Land Rover’s engineers have rigorously tested the four-wheel drive Convertible to ensure it delivers the all-terrain capability the brand is renowned for.

Land Rover confirmed plans to launch a convertible derivative of its Range Rover Evoque at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015.

It will be the third derivative of the Halewood-built SUV which has proved a huge sales success globally for Land Rover, joining three and five-door hard-top models. It is thought a larger stretched wheelbase Evoque could also be in the pipeline.
