More than 150 jobs are to be created from the ashes of failure after growing manufacturer Sertec took over the site of collapsed communications firm Greenwoods.

The automotive supply chain firm – one of Jaguar Land Rover’s top suppliers – has acquired the 120,000 sq ft facility in Coleshill for its new global headquarters.

The company has agreed a 25-year lease for a site once occupied by failed telecoms business Greenwoods Communications, which saw the loss of 240 jobs.

Community leaders say it is a boost for an area which has been hit by several jobs blows, including the closure of Daw Mill Colliery.

Sertec managing director Grant Adams said: “This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time for us and the proximity to our current factory is perfect from a logistics point of view.

“We needed more space to allow for our increased production requirements and for the additional 150 employees we are recruiting throughout the group.

“This will make us second only to BMW as the largest employers in the area which is great news for Coleshill.”

The move is a further boost for Sertec, which has enjoyed record growth in recent years.

The company was given the manufacturing prize at this year’s Birmingham Post Business Awards, held at Edgbaston Stadium in October.

The increase in demand from key client Jaguar Land Rover has been the main driver of Sertec’s growth and the new premises has the potential to expand by a further 45,000 sq ft. Sertec’s existing manufacturing base, also in Gorsey Lane, will continue to operate as a pressings factory.

It supplies 154 parts to the new Range Rover and 142 parts are manufactured for the Castle Bromwich-built Jaguar F –Type.

Leader of North Warwickshire Borough Council coun Mick Stanley said the area was due some positive employment news.

He said: “This is excellent news for North Warwickshire after the devastating closure of Daw Mill colliery, followed by the collapse of Greenwoods and the loss of hundreds of jobs.

“We have been working with many different organisations and businesses to run Jobs Fairs to help people who have been made redundant, so it’s good to hear that there will be 150 new vacancies created by Sertec’s expansion in Coleshill.

“We will, of course, offer any support to the company to help them with the recruitment process.”

Graham Darby of Coleshill-based commercial and industrial property consultants, G R Darby, acted for Sertec.

“The building provided the perfect solution for Sertec, due to its proximity to both JLR’s Castle Bromwich and Solihull plants, and the ability to expand on site allows them to accommodate the anticipated future growth of the business,” Mr Darby said.

James Darby, associate director in the industrial and logistics team at the Birmingham office of Colliers International, advised Anglesea Capital, the landlord.
