An adviser with the Birmingham office of financial services firm EY has fallen to his death during a trip to New York.

Tax specialist Duncan Hodgetts was 25 and said to be on a business trip in America.

He reportedly fell from a 14th floor apartment window at the Executive Plaza building at 8.30am yesterday morning.

He was found on a third-floor balcony of the neighbouring Michelangelo Hotel and was declared dead at the scene.

Birmingham-based Ernst and Young spokesman Adam Holden confirmed that Mr Hodgetts had been based in the city.

The company said in a statement: "We are very saddened to hear of the death of our colleague, Duncan Hodgetts.

"The matter is being investigated by the New York Police Department and they can expect our full co-operation.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Duncan's family, friends and colleagues."
