As an appetiser for the first Birmingham Whisky Festival next weekend, The Whisky Lounge founder and ‘water of life’ evangelist Eddie Ludlow showed it’s not just about the malts, as good blended whisky is definitely worth a nose.

Held at the Hyatt Regency on Bridge Street, he took local media, commentators and enthusiasts through the blending art form and taste tests before letting them loose (in pairs) with their own set of whiskies and equipment.

They then conjured up their best possible blend, bottled it into miniatures, labelled it and gave it an all-important name, before Eddie determined an ultimate winner – Luke Morgan of The Botanist bar/restaurant on Temple Street and Kieron Moore of the Hyatt Regency.

The Banqueting Suite of Birmingham’s Council House will on November 12 provide the perfect first festival backdrop, with hundreds of whiskies on offer. Attendees will be able to take the same blending workshop.
