Greater Birmingham Chamber and Jaguar Land Rover are among 12 West Midlands firms to share in £54.9 million from the Regional Growth Fund.

The money seeks to help firms grow, with Rimstock, Brose UK and the University of Wolverhampton also awarded.

The latest funding takes the total invested in this region to £400 million since 2010, into 74 projects which the Government claims will create or safeguard around 119,000 local jobs and attract around £3.1 billion of further investment.

Business Secretary Vince Cable will visit automotive specialist Brose in Coventry to announce the funding. Brose, which develops mechatronics systems for vehicle doors, seats and motors, has plans to build and equip a new factory.

Mr Cable said: "We have invested more than £1.1 billion in British manufacturing businesses outside London to grow and create jobs in sectors spanning aerospace, automotive, low-carbon and chemicals.

"Today's investment supporting businesses like Brose will boost British manufacturing, exports, and opportunities to innovate."

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said the fund has strengthened UK regions.

He said: "After decades of regional economies being neglected I set about investing directly in local businesses via the Regional Growth Fund. This investment has allowed regional businesses to be more ambitious than ever before and gone a long way in creating a stronger economy."

For every £1 the Government has invested through the fund, the private sector has put in £5.50, meaning the total investment is now expected to attract £16 billion of private sector support across the country, it claims.

All but one of the 12 Midland companies funded in the sixth round were identified. They are:
