Midlands business-woman Carol Garrington, has been named the most exceptional working mother in the UK.
The mum-of-two from Cheslyn Hay has come to terms with a range of medical conditions and is bringing up a young family while working as director of agency Passionate Media.
The 34-year-old former magistrates court worker and fire service switchboard operator was nominated by her sister Katie Love, who also works at the Gaileybased firm.
Katie's nomination was sparked by the fact that Carol was born with conditions that made doctors warn her she would never walk and never have children.
Carol made the decision to have her left leg amputated below the knee when she was 12 and faced years of ongoing treatment.
She landed the accolade at London's City Hall yesterday in the face of tough competition from eight finalists at the motheratwork Awards 2006.
She said: "Being a mother is exceptionally challenging and forging a successful career is even more challenging, so to do both, every working mother should be given an award for doing that."
She called on businesses to ensure flexible working hours to allow mums the chance to bring up a family as well as having a career.
