Two Birmingham entrepreneurs have secured the jobs of eight people by taking over a builders merchants in Small Heath. And they are now looking to double the workforce.
Mohammed Farid, who was recently voted Asian Businessman of the Year, and his partner Mohammed Khan, have expanded their business empire by purchasing the Small Heath Building Centre, renovating the business and securing the jobs of all the existing workforce.
The acquisition of the unit, which is on Jenkins Street, has already secured the business new contracts and customers.
The complex is the latest business to be successfully run by Mohammed Farid and Mohammed Khan, joining Ambassador Cars and restaurants, the Punjab Paradise and Celebrities amongst others.
Following the purchase, the partners now provide jobs for 50 people and they are looking for at least another eight at the builder’s merchants in the short term.
Mr Farid said: "Mohammed and I already have some great businesses, however when we saw that the Small Heath Building Centre was on the market, we knew it was too good an opportunity to turn down.
"We knew there was a demand for a quality builders merchants in the area which could deliver the supplies and advice local builders needed at the right price, and we knew the Small Heath Building Centre could deliver that under our management. We have already put time into the business to refurbish the yard, source new customers and generally make sure it is an important resource for local builders.
"We are very excited about this new business venture."
