A Black Country charity that helps clients into self employment is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary later this month and is searching the region for entrepreneurs it has assisted.
Breathing Space has worked with more than 14,000 individuals since it was established in Central Hall in Walsall in 1989 and is trying to get in touch with as many people as possible to attend a special event on April 22.
The celebration, which will include live entertainment and a special showcase of existing businesses, takes place at the organisation’s new facility at 34 Green Lane – the Enterprise Hub and it is hoped that previous clients can come together and share experiences and achievements.
There will also be the new breed of Breathing Space-backed entrepreneurs receiving special awards, not to mention guided tours of the new enterprise space available for start-ups and young companies.
Glennys Davis, general manager, said: “One of the best things about the work we do is the way that we can change lives, as a lot of our clients have challenges they need to overcome.
“Seeing how they develop and learn new skills with a bit of external support is fantastic and the birthday event will be a major celebration on everything the charity and its people have achieved.
She continued: “If anyone who has been through the service or knows someone who has, please get in touch on 01922 213213 or email email@example.com as we’d love to get more than 200 people there on the night.”
Breathing Space offers practical business training, advice and expert mentoring, giving individuals from the Black Country the chance to develop the attributes needed to run their own business, sharpen up their basic skills, and to get ongoing one-on-one support during the start-up stage.
Seventy-two individuals, many from disadvantaged areas and with some form of barriers to overcome, successfully became self employed in 2008, with the Charity looking to pass the 100 mark for the first time this year.
In addition to self-employment support, the organisation also provides one-to-one assistance in job search skills, reading and writing and personal development and offers high class furnished accommodation, ranging from a hot desk to a fully fitted serviced office with virtual and back-office facilities.
