The Birmingham Post has successfully applied to the Regional Growth Fund to administer and distribute a £5million pot aimed at creating jobs and supporting businesses in the region.

The application by the newspaper, working in partnership with Bournville College, is one of 19 successful bids from the region which is expected to create up to 3,900 direct jobs and 29,800 indirect jobs.

Other successful applicants include Zytek Automotive, Sunsolar Energy and Thomas Dudley.

This is the second round of Regional Growth Fund Grants with organisations such as Jaguar Land Rover and Birmingham Airport successful in round one.

A number of newspapers, including the Liverpool Echo, were successful in round one in applying to administer and distribute local funds, although the £5million allocation to the Birmingham Post is the largest award to date.
