Serco Welfare to Work is delighted to back the region’s finest legal and business advisory services by sponsoring the prestigious Birmingham Post Business Awards.
As companies across our region fight for survival in this tough economic climate, the Legal and Business Advisory category has a crucial role to play in shaping the future of firms of every size.
Serco Welfare to Work is the leading provider of employment solutions for long-term unemployed people in the West Midlands.
Delivering the government’s Flexible New Deal programme through a network of quality providers, we play a pivotal role in ensuring employment opportunities are available for those who have been out of work for more than 12 months.
As well as offering these individuals a chance to end their dependency on benefits, and helping to improve self-esteem and instil a work ethic, we are giving employers in the West Midlands access to a rich vein of new employees determined to improve both themselves, and the companies that employee them.
Our unique three-step approach allows for our network of specialist providers to offer personalised guidance to long-term unemployed people and give them the best possible chance at becoming a valued member of staff for a company based in the West Midlands.
We are working with employers across the West Midlands to ensure that the workforce we are providing have the skills and abilities to work within their organisation to strengthen their businesses for the future.
While many employers may initially be reluctant to seek new staff among long-term unemployed people we have found that the focus and drive which many of these individuals display when given their opportunity in the workplace make them invaluable to employers.
When advising businesses on their workforces, Serco takes steps to identify referral pathways for continuing personal development within the workforce, to ensure that each firm is getting the most from their staff.
The focus of Flexible New Deal, and the centrepiece of all Serco business advice, is sustainability.
Across the country Serco will deal with more than 300,000 long-term unemployed individuals over the next five years.
Serco is expecting over half of these jobseekers to secure employment with three quarters sustaining those jobs for six months.
Gone are the days when the employment sector was merely about finding any old job for any old employee.
At Serco, we are focussed on providing tailored solutions for employers, and ensuring that jobless individuals enter sustained employment, rather than lurching from one job to another simply to secure their next benefit cheque.
My own personal experiences, having suffered a sports injury which left me quadriplegic in my early twenties as I completed my medical degree, has shown me the value of giving people a chance to prove themselves, whatever their background.
Our advice to businesses has been clear, you can tap into the potential of a hugely committed and driven workforce if you give long term unemployed people a break.
