Employees from Birmingham-based online broker TD Waterhouse are walking 900 miles in a collective effort to raise money for Sport Relief.

The challenge, which has been taking place in phases over the past week, involves 31 individuals from the Birmingham office being sponsored to walk one mile, or run from three to six miles each, in a bid to clock up a total of 900 miles between them, with all money raised going towards Sport Relief 2010.

The 900 mile challenge is the first time TD Waterhouse employees from all offices – Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Luxembourg – have taken part in a fundraising event together.

Tracy Booth, HR director at TD Waterhouse said: “We have not only pledged to walk 900 miles during the course of next week, we have also arranged a variety of activities in the build up to, and during the actual day of Sport Relief on Friday, March 19. TD Waterhouse employees will be taking on a Wii Ski challenge, a penalty shoot out, sports fancy dress, a sponsored golf day, cake sales and a grand prize raffle, so there’s enough to keep everyone entertained.”

Ms Booth added: “We have more volunteers than ever before taking part in this year’s event and with such varied activities taking place, we are sure to beat last year’s fundraising total of £6,500 – including pound-for-pound matching from TD Waterhouse.”
