Corporate recovery group Begbies Traynor has acquired the business of FDB International, an investigation and security agency with offices in London, Surrey and Yorkshire.
The acquisition augments Begbies Traynor's rapidly growing forensic investigations division by adding specialist skills in fraud detection, the tracing of assets and individuals, intelligence gathering and corporate security.
These services are also widely used in the core business of the group - business insolvencies.
For example, forensic investigation techniques were employed by Begbies Traynor to help realise assets of personal injury specialists the Accident Group, where total recoveries to date exceed £10 million.
The staff of FDB will all remain in place.
Begbies Traynor's purchase of FDB is the third acquisition it has completed since joining the Alternative Investment Market in October 2004.
The other two were Leedsbased MCF Corporate Finance and A Segal & Co., an Essex practice specialising in company administrations, personal bankruptcies, liquidations and receiverships.
Begbies Traynor, which has an office in Birmingham, aims to double its market share by 2007 through continued organic growth and further acquisitions.
Ric Traynor, executive chairman, said: "FDB is a respected operator in one of the market's fastest-growing niches. By joining Begbies Traynor it will benefit by becoming part of a wellregarded national practice and enhance our rapidlygrowing forensic and investigations offering.
"This will help raise FDB's profile among business referrers and broaden its customer base."
