David Smith - one of the highest-profile property bankers in the region - has been appointed by Barclays as head of its Midlands property finance team.

His appointment follows a five-year period at Anglo Irish Bank where he was the architect of its growth in the Birmingham-based Midlands office.

Prior to that he worked in Nottingham, where in 1996 he established the first property finance team for NatWest out-side of London, covering the Midlands and South West regions.

"Barclays' existing Midlands property finance team has an in depth knowledge and understanding of the sector with an impressive and expanding client base," he said.

"I am looking forward to developing Barclays proposition even further, with the main objective of becoming the lead property finance team in the Midlands.

"In addition to debt, the team has access to mezzanine and equity products for both investment and development transactions. Barclays balance sheet strength, expertise and product capability will enable a broad range of funding structures to be delivered across the whole spectrum of the property sector." ..SUPL:
