Bank Restaurant Group - the AIM-listed restaurant operator with an outlet in Birmingham - yesterday confirmed it was in talks with Sir Terence Conran's company, Conran Holdings, over the possible acquisition of its six strong Zinc Bar and Grill chain.

Two days ago Bank admitted it was in advanced talks to buy a restaurant chain as part of a revamped expansion strategy led by new executive chairman Robert Breare.

The move to acquire Zinc represents the first step in the new strategy. However, in a brief statement to the London Stock Exchange, Bank said no agreement had yet been reached.

The group said: " In finalising the terms of any potential transaction, the board of Bank will take into account what it considers will be in the best interests of all Bank shareholders and will provide a stronger platform for growing the company in the future."
