Another 165 jobs are to go in the West Midlands with the closure of the Bank of Ireland’s mortgage office in Solihull, it was revealed today.
The Shirley-based mortgage centre is set to shut in April following a decision by the Dublin-based parent group to axe 600 jobs across the group.
Both the Shirley office and the group’s Reading office will shut as part of a major restructuring programme.
The group’s Shirley office processes Bank of Ireland and Bristol and West mortgages through intermediary channels but has been hit severely by the lending slowdown.
Bank of Ireland media relations manager Anne Mathews said: “We are starting a consultation process with staff affected today. We would expect both Reading and Solihull will close some time in April. Existing mortgage customers will not be impacted in any way.”
