Airport operator BAA is buying a controlling stake in Budapest Airport in a £1.26 billion deal, the group said yesterday.

BAA has agreed to buy 75 per cent of the airport, minus one share, plus the 75-year asset management contract and associated moveable assets.

"This will give BAA full operational and strategic control regarding the future development of the airport," it said in a statement.

The bid battle for Hungary's largest airport has also involved Germany's Hochtief and Frankfurt airport operator Fraport.

Hochtief yesterday confirmed it had filed suit over the awarding of the contract to BAA.

Meanwhile, Derby-based aero-engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce yesterday landed a £57 million contract to service the UK's new fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon jets. ..SUPL:
